Since the beginning of the year, we have been disseminating information regarding Google’s prospective plans for the tablet market. It has been observed that the Nexus 10 has been out of stock for an extended period.
In March, reports of an HTC-made Nexus 8 tablet emerged, and this was followed by the appearance of the terms “flounder” and “HTC” in Chromium source code earlier this month, which served to reinforce the likelihood of such a device. As reported by Myce.com, the AOSP patch notes have been revealed, confirming the existence of the flounder device, which is equipped with a Tegra-based SoC. It is reasonable to conclude that the 132-core Tegra K1, which was announced at CES 2024 in January, will be used. Furthermore, this is not the first instance in which this particular processor has been referenced in Android code. For additional context, Myce has published an article on this topic, which can be accessed here.
It is unclear whether the code refers to a 32-bit or 64-bit variant of the Tegra K1, as both terms are mentioned. It would be a significant advancement for Google to utilize the 64-bit SoC, as it would mark the company’s inaugural foray into 64-bit Android technology. Additionally, if the reports about HTC manufacturing the device prove accurate, this would also be the first 64-bit Android device produced by the company.
