Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P Get 2 More Months of Security Patches
The Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P were announced two years ago in September. So according to Google’s own software policy, the two models should get two years of updates and three years of security updates.
Up until now, the company listed September 2024 as the date when security patch support is expected to end for the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P. But if you take a look at the same page now, you will notice that Google updated it to say November 2024 instead of September 2024. Which means the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P will be getting two more months of extra security updates.
Google hasn’t given a reason for why it extended the deadline, but hopefully, it’s not all a mistake which will be corrected further on. The Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P received the Android 8.0 Oreo update, but users of these devices shouldn’t expect to get any other major update further down the line. But with two extra months of security updates, at least we’ll see the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P go out in style.
In a few days, Google will be taking the stage to unveil its next-gen Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, as well as a bunch of other new products including a Google Home Mini version.
