HTC Rolling Out Android L Update Within 90 Days Of Release

Today was a really good day to be an Android user as Google unveiled a sneak preview at it’s next version of Android, called “L” until it gets a proper name in the fall. This is all fun and games, until it comes time for non-Nexus OEMs to ship OTAs out to all their customers.

Right before I/O started, HTC announced on Twitter that it had plans to update the One (M8) and One (M7) within 90 days of the OS being sent to them from Google (usually a few days/weeks before the general release to AOSP). Here’s the full text from HTC:

HTC Customers and Enthusiasts,

HTC is excited about the new features in the Android L release and we can’t wait to share them with you. We are committed to updating our flagship HTC One family as fast as possible as part of our HTC Advantage program. We will begin rolling out updates to the HTC One (M8) and HTC One (M7) worldwide within 90 days of receiving final software from Google, followed shortly thereafter by other One family members and select devices. HTC Advantage protects your smartphone investment, ensuring you have the best smartphone experience long after purchase.

It’s good to know that this isn’t just in the US, but a global update roll out. I’m actually interested to see HTC’s take on the L release with their updated Sense 6(.5) UI, but it’s good to try out the actual L preview, which is set to be released sometime tomorrow.
