Google and Samsung to Release Firmware Update to Keep Galaxy Nexus on the Market
According to a report from AllThingsD, Google and Samsung are set to release a firmware patch to keep the Samsung Galaxy Nexus on the market, after Apple won a court injunction banning sales of the tablet, that alleged it infringed on an Apple patent:
The move follows a decision on Tuesday by District Court Judge Lucy Koh not to hold off while Samsung pursues its appeal of the ban. Koh ruled Friday that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus is likely to infringe on four Apple patents, but issued the injunction based specifically on a patent related to universal search.
Even as it pushes out the software update, Google plans to support Samsung in its appeal of the injunction, as well as to challenge the universal search patent at issue in the case.
This comes at an important time for Google, as they recently announced their new Android 4.1 Jelly Bean firmware at the 2024 Google I/O, alongside a new Nexus 7 tablet. Google needs to push out the fix without delay in order to avoid impacting any further sales of their devices and the Galaxy Tab, which was also recently banned by Judge Koh.
What do you think? Is the lawsuit a valid one by Apple?
