Galaxy Tab or the Xoom; Which Tablet Should You Get?
At the moment in Canada there is only one tablet available in stores: the Samsung Galaxy Tab. Soon, however, the Motorola Xoom will be available for purchase. With such a small selection, which one should Canadians be investing in?
Most people might be inclined to go for the Xoom because it’s newer and newer is usually a better buy than anything old. The Tab’s “pocketability” is the highlight of the device. It’s 0.84 lbs, and is only 7 inches big; unlike the Xoom, you can hold this thing in one hand. Unlike the Xoom, the Tab uses a non-tablet specific version of Android (2.2) so it can make calls and text; making the need for a cell phone less necessary (although probably still better if you do).
The Xoom is definitely a winner when it comes to specs: it has a bigger and better screen, a better CPU and even better cameras. The Xoom is a definite contender to replace one’s PC just because it’s able to. The Xoom will be able to edit and work on documents, and has a full web browser like Google Chrome. The Tab just cannot stand up to this; it’s made to be a companion piece, not to replace every other tool.
It ultimately is a matter of preference on which tablet you should get, but both tablets are good. The Tab is cheaper and may be better if you plan to use more than just a tablet all day. The Xoom is expensive, but it can justify that because of its specs. I expect a lot of comments that the Tab may be dead or useless now, but I still believe it is a good option for those that want a tablet but don’t need one for large amounts of working. Each tablet is good and serves it purpose; it just depends on what kind of a user you are.
Personally, I could see myself using either, but I’m interested in how other people feel; would you guys rather have a Tab or a Xoom and why?
