Android Pay Could Land in Canada by May 31

During the Google I/O 2024 conference it was revealed that Android Pay was bound to arrive in Canada in the next few months.

Well today we bring you good news. You won’t have to wait too long. According to a report coming out of The Verge, it looks like the service will land in the country on May 31 – so just at the end of the month.

Once in Canada, Android Pay will work with most credit and debit cards including those from VISA, MasterCard, American Express and Interac, although we are yet to know the exact specifics and list of official partners.

At the moment, Canadians can take advantage of Apple Pay and Samsung Pay – which is nevertheless limited to CIBC credit cards – but soon Android Pay will join the contactless paying party.

Another option of making mobile payments in Canada was to use the banks’ own apps. Three of the five major banks in the country including TD Canada Trust, Scotiabank and RBC offer support mobile payments via their apps.

But the arrival of Android Pay will make everything easier. For example, customers won’t need to rely on third-party apps anymore.

Android Pay was previously made available in the country, through unofficially.
