HTC And Facebook Announce The ‘Facebook Phone’
Facebook and HTC have finally announced the long rumored Facebook phone except that it isn’t really a Facebook phone but no one will fault you if you call it that. Essentially what it is, is a mid range HTC device running Android that incorporates a series of Facebook customizations that shape the look and feel of the device.
So first we will give you the details on the hardware. The HTC First as it is named, will come in four colours: red, light blue, white and black. It will sport a 4.3-inch, 1280 x 720 Super LCD display. The HTC First will be powered by a 1.4GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor with 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage and a 2024mAh battery. It will also be sporting a 5MP rear camera and a 1.6MP camera on the front. Like I said, pretty mid-range, but the idea isn’t to sell you on the hardware.
On the software side of it, the HTC First will run Android 4.1 and Facebook’s Home launcher, which is the Facebook part of the Facebook phone. Facebook Home will eventually be available to download from the Google Play Store on all devices however it will have a bit more integration with the HTC First. Facebook Home is a series of apps that integrate with Android and essentially becomes your home screen on Android. Ultimately Facebook Home is a home screen launcher that has built in apps specifically for Facebook features and users.
All in all if you are a big Facebook user or fan this should be welcome news for you, especially since using Facebook Home is not contingent on you buying a new device. If you are not a Facebook fan then this really doesn’t change much for you.
If you decide to give Facebook Home a shot, tell us what you think or tell us why you never will.
