HP To Turn Up The Performance On The Slate 8
Earlier this year HP made their return to the tablet market with the HP Slate 7. This budget 7 incher was their first go at the tablet market since that oh so forgetable HP TouchPad debacle (although many, including myself, cashed in on a super cheap 9.7 incher that could be dual-booted). The Slate 7 wasn’t a terrible device but it definitely got lost a bit in the increasingly competitive 7″ tablet market. The price was decent, but the specs were a little bit lackluster compared to some of the competition.
Well it looks like HP is planning to step up their game with their next tablet, the HP Slate 8 Pro. This device, which is currently under the codename Bodhi, is rumoured to pack a 8″ display with a resolution of 1600×1200. It’ll be powered by the Nvidia Tegra 4 with 2GB of RAM to keep processes running nice and smooth. It’s also expected to carry a 5000+ mAh battery and it should come with a micro-SD card slot. Android 4.2.2 is said to run the show but as this has yet to be announced, there’s always the chance they try to throw 4.3 on the device.
Everything looks good so far and this could definitely be a very competitive tablet. However, if they price this guy too high it will more than likely sit on store shelves collecting dust. The Nexus 7 has really put pressure on other manufacturers to create high performing low cost devices. Google can definitely cut costs on their Nexus devices because they make their revenue elsewhere; but other manufacturers don’t quite have that same luxury.
What do you guys think of this tablet? Is it something you’d consider?
