Asus $99 Tablet Rumours Return
This little rumour has been going around and around for well over a month now. The rumour began when news surfaced that Asus was working on another, even cheaper, Nexus device with Google. Both Asus and Google quickly squashed that rumour but many still believed that Asus had something super cheap in the works.
Well the rumours have surfaced again and it’s becoming more and more probable that Asus has a super low cost 7″ tablet on the way. The mystery device is codenamed the ME172V and offers some decent specs.
- 7″ 1024×600 Display
- VIA WM8950 Processor (Single Core)
- 1GB RAM
- 16GB Internal Storage
- 1.3 MP Camera
- Android 4.1
In terms of build quality and materials don’t expect anything mind blowing. In order to cut costs and pass those savings on to the consumer, they will likely use cheaper materials to build the device. Speaking about costs, it’s not likely that Asus will be able to hit that $99 price range. Instead it’s more likely that the device will come in at around $129-$149, which is still a great price for someone looking for a cheap little tablet to do some web browsing, reading, and some light gaming.
One last thing, it does appear that this will be an Asus device, not a Nexus device. Normally this means slow updates and a clunky launcher, Asus has always kept their customizations to a minimum and have been the greatest manufacturer when it comes to rolling out updates.
