Telus Desire HD ICS Upgrade Cancelled…
Sad news for all of you HTC Desire HD users. It appears that the update that had been lined up for your device has now been cancelled. The reason? ”Poor device performance during tests.” In other words, the update likely slowed the device down more than it helped it out.
This isn’t the first time a manufacture had changed their mind about an update. Samsung chose not to update the original Galaxy S but had promised a Android 4.0 Value Pack to add features from ICS to a non ICS device. They then cancelled that plan and then again, to some degree, released it. Of course, many were upset since the Galaxy S is almost the same as the Nexus S, which received ICS and should be receiving JellyBean soon.
This issue of “poor testing” raises the question again about custom UI’s that the manufacturers are adding to Android. Clearly, the overlays have some affect on performance, yet the manufacturers still stand by them to differentiate their devices.
So for those who were hoping for that upgrade, perhaps it’s time to dive into the Root and Rom community.
