Sony Officially Unveils The Xperia Z1 f – A Mini Sized Z1

Xperia Z1 f

It seems like everybody’s got a Mini version out this year but Sony’s miniature device definitely takes the cake.  Sony officially unveiled their Mini device today, the Xperia Z1 f (formerly known as the Honami Mini or Z1 Mini).  Unlike other miniature devices, this one packs all the power of its big brother into the more compact frame.  Here’s the specs on this bad boy:

  • 4.3″ 720p Display
  • 2.2 GHz Quad-Core Snapdragon 800 Processor
  • Adreno 330 GPU
  • 2GB RAM
  • 16GB Internal Storage
  • microSD Card Slot
  • 20.7 MP Camera
  • 2MP Camear
  • 2300 mAh Battery
  • IP58 Certified (Dustproof and Water Resistant up to 1 Meter and 30 Minutes)
  • Android 4.2

As you can see, the only major changes to this over the Xperia Z1 are the screen size and resolution and battery capacity and frankly the changes are by no means deal breakers.  At 4.3″ and a 720p resolution, the screen should be incredibly crisp still (but hopefully with better viewing angles) and thanks to the smaller screen and lower resolution, battery life will still be great despite the smaller battery.

Now I should note that this phone has only been announced for NTT DoCoMo in Japan at this time and that it’s slated to launch in December.  There’s no word at this time whether or not a global release will happen but if Sony really wants to get themselves back in the game, a global release should be a no brainer.

I would probably never go with a device this small but if I were to go Mini, this is the Mini I want.  Beautiful design and killer specs in a compact frame that no Mini can currently match.  What do you guys think of Sony’s Mini?  Would you buy one?
