Samsung Officially Announces The Galaxy S4 Active
Samsung has decided to jump the gun a little bit and have officially announced the Galaxy S4 Active just ahead of their “Premier” Event which will take place on June 20. The device was unveiled on their Samsung Tomorrow Blog and for the most part everything is as it was rumoured to be.
- 5″ 1080p Display
- 1.9GHz Quad-Core Processor
- 2GB RAM
- 16GB Internal Storage (with 11.25GB usable…interesting that they clearly mark this)
- microSD Card Slot
- 8MP Camera
- 2MP Front Facing Camera
- 2600 mAh Battery
- Android 4.2.2
The only real difference in the spec sheet is the camera, which they downgraded to an 8MP. The phone is a little bit bulkier than the original S4 but that is to help accomodate the added durability of the phone. Again, this phone is water proof and dust proof and that alone will likely help push millions of these devices off the shelves.
Software wise everything seems the same as the original S4. It has all those wonderful “features” that Samsung built into the S4 which includes things like Air View, S Translator, S Health, and Smart Screen. They’ve also thrown a Aqua Mode into the camera to help you take those wonderful underwater shots you’ll undoubtedly want to take simply because you can. They’ve also enabled the volume button to work as the shutter button while you’re taking those underwater shots.

I have to say I feel like Samsung should have just lead with this device rather than making it a variant of the original. However, I guess not everyone wants/needs that added protection and would prefer a sleeker looking device.
How many of you are thinking of grabbing this guy once it comes to market?
