Samsung Announces The Galaxy S5 LTE-A – Is This The Galaxy F (aka S5 Prime)?

Galaxy S5 LTE-A

After much anticipation and expectation, Samsung has outed a new Galaxy S5, the Galaxy S5 LTE-A.  The device was just unveiled in Korea and it is almost everything we expected the fabled Galaxy F (aka Galaxy S5 Prime) to be.  Here’s the spec breakdown:

  • 5.1″ QHD Super AMOLED Display (2560×1440)
  • 2.5 GHz Snapdragon 805 Processor
  • Adreno 420 GPU
  • 3GB RAM
  • 16MP ISOCELL Camera
  • 2MP Front Facing Camera
  • 2800 mAh Battery
  • Fingerprint Reader, Heart Rate Monitor
  • IP67 Rated for Water and Dust
  • LTE-A Support
  • Android 4.4

Now I said at the top that this device is almost what we expected and what rumours were pointing to.  The specs are basically everything we expected but the design is not.  Contrary to rumours about the Galaxy F (and alleged pictures of the F), this particular device, the Galaxy S5 LTE-A is made of plastic, not metal.  Also, the bezels don’t look quite as thin as we’ve seen in pictures of the Galaxy F.

So that leaves us with two options.  1. Samsung decided to ditch the metal design and stick with ol’ reliable polycarbonate or 2. This isn’t the Galaxy F.  Personally, I lean more towards the latter despite my scepticism of the Fs existence and my overall annoyance at the lack of acknowledgement from Samsung on the project.  One of the key reasons I don’t think that this is the F is because I’m quite certain that this device, the S5 LTE-A, won’t make it outside of South Korea.  The LTE-A network is not a wide spread network at all so it wouldn’t make sense to launch this phone globally as most nations wouldn’t be able to take advantage of the new chip.

That last bit is just my personal speculation so take it as such.  What do you guys think?  Is this the last S5 we see this year or is a Prime (or Galaxy F) still on the way?
