The Nexus Program ISN’T Dead!!!!
I’ve got some amazingly exciting news to pass your guys’ way this lovely Friday! The Nexus program is NOT dead! I repeat, the Nexus program is NOT dead!!
Rumours had been swirling for the last couple of months that Google was going to put the brakes on the Nexus program in favour of the much rumoured Android Silver project. Android Silver is, in a lot of ways, the evolution of the Google Play Edition devices. Google would partner with top manufacturers in creating top tier stock Android devices that would be fully supported and updated by Google and sold through the traditional retail chains. Such a program would, in some regard, make the Nexus program irrelevant since stock Android devices would be plentiful and this ultimately lead to all the rumours that the Nexus program would be scraped. But as I said at the top, the Nexus program is NOT dead!
In a recent interview with ReadWrite, Dave Burke, who is the head of Android engineering and the Nexus program, cleared up all the rumours. Burke said that “People have been commenting about Nexus because there is something else and they think that means the end of Nexus. That is the totally wrong conclusion to make.” He goes on to say that “We are still invested in Nexus.” Unfortunately, Burke wouldn’t divulge any details on the Android Silver project: “Android Silver is not something that we are commenting on right now.”
So there you have it, right from the top. The Nexus program is not dead. So if a phone and tablet are in the works, there’s a good chance that Google will launch it when they fully launch Android L to the public. Let the Nexus rumours begin all over again.
