How Does A $160 Tegra-3 Phone Sound?
Google just gave us a very affordable but very high-end phone. The Nexus 4 starts at the low low price of $300. But Chinese company ZTE has decided that even $300 dollars is too much as they have just announced a new quad-core Tegra 3 device, the ZTE U950, that will come with the ridiculously low price tag of $160 (or 999 yuan). I know what you’re thinking, “well at that price it’s going to be terrible.” Well not when you see the spec sheet:
- 1.3GHz Tegra 3 Processor
- 1GB RAM
- 4.3″ WVGA Screen
- 2024 mAh Battery
- 5MP Camera and Front Facing Camera
- 9mm Thin
Okay, so it may not be quite on the level of the Nexus 4, but you have to admit it’s a killer device at that price range. It definitely holds its own against many of our mid/high end devices here in Canada that come at 4-5 times the price. And ZTE isn’t a brand new manufacturer either. They’ve been around for quite some time now. Sadly, we’ll likely never see this device on our shores (or any phone like this at this price range) but the world is small now and there’s always ways to get such devices with a few extra bucks.
