Holy Octo-chip Batman!
CES has brought some new killer chipsets. Qualcomm introduced their new line, Nvidia brought the Tegra 4 to the show, even Huawei talked about their new chip that they’re working on. One thing we didn’t see though was a jump in the number of cores in a chipset, well that was until now at least.
Samsung has just introduced their Exynos 5 Octo, a 8 core processor that is sure to blow everyone out of the water. The chip is built on ARM’s big.LITTLE concept which combines 4 high powered A15 cores for all those processor intensive tasks while another 4 A7 chips handle the more mundane things. The end result is a super powered chip that can handle everything that is thrown at it while remaining very efficient.
There’s no word on when these chips will make their way into the marketplace or on what devices, but it’s very plausible that the next Galaxy S, Galaxy Note, Galaxy Tab, and Galaxy Note 10.1 could all feature this amazing little piece of engineering.
