BBC To Investigate The Storage Shortage Of The Galaxy S4
They say that any publicity is good publicity, but I’m not too sure that this upcoming story is something Samsung wants going around. It looks like BBC’s weekly show, BBC Watchdog, is going to do a little digging into the limited available storage of Samsung’s latest flagship device, the Galaxy S4.
The limited storage of the S4 has been one of the biggest complaints about Samsung’s latest flagship. As you can see in the screenshot below, my 16GB S4 that I’m reviewing only had 9.62GB of available storage and that’s before you account for all the apps that come pre-installed on the phone. I’ve only installed a few apps so far and I’m already down to 7.86GB which nowadays really isn’t that much.
So where did all this space go? Well if you look at the list of features that have been poured into the latest iteration of TouchWiz, you have to think that those are all needing a good chunk of storage to be there. I’m still on the fence with the features. On the one hand they’re pretty cool and really differentiate the device from all the other Android devices on the market but on the other hand I can’t see myself using the majority of them on a daily basis.
And while you can throw a microSD card in there to help out, the majority of your apps need to be placed on the internal storage and with no 32GB version available, there’s no secondary option for those who like to load up with apps and games.
It’ll be interesting to see what BBC Watchdog reports when they air that story on May 15. What are you guys’ thoughts on the internal storage shortage? Not a big deal? Problematic?
