New Android Market Update Rolls Out in Canada

How the update arrived

An earlier version of the new store had circulated before, and it had a few problems that later settled down. The writer had tried it, hit a couple of force closes, and went back to the stock version. Then, while checking for app updates, the store had updated itself. A second phone in the same household did the same thing, so the new version was no longer optional.

What the new design offered

• A look compared to the Metro interface style.

• A Staff picks section, described as a novel touch.

What was missing

The main complaint was that there was no visible My Apps button. The same list could be reached through the menu, but that meant using the soft buttons, which the writer admitted they now barely wanted to touch after once disliking the removal of hard buttons. The list of available updates also did not always appear as promptly as hoped.

Status today

This version is long obsolete. The store is now Google Play and keeps itself current without any manual steps.
