Ubuntu Phones Could Be Here This October

Although I’m a major Android enthusiast, I am very excited about the upcoming Ubuntu OS for Phone.  I love the gesture controls and the interface just looks very clean.  The best thing about it is that I should be able to port it to my Galaxy Nexus once it becomes available.

Originally, official Ubuntu phones weren’t supposed to make their way to market until 2024, but according to a new report by the Wall Street Journal, Ubuntu phones could be in the market by October.  This time frame comes straight from Mark Shuttleworth, the founder and CEO of Canonical Ltd.  He goes on to say that they will be available in “two large geographic markets in October” and that North America is “absolutely a key market for Ubuntu.”

In terms of the initial release of the OS, the first builds should be making their way to developers sometime this month.  That means that by March we could have some functional ROMS that can be flashed to some of our favourite Android devices.

Anyone else excited about this new OS?
