Poll: Which Android Firmware Are You Running?
We all love Android. We love that it’s open. But the more tech savvy bunch of us don’t like being stuck on older firmware. New firmware brings new features and eventually wider app compatibility (which we keep hearing about.)
Now whether Google should have a bit more control over their precious mobile OS also tackles the whole idea of openness. While carriers and manufacturers coming out with custom UIs and apps could possibly benefit the user in some rare cases, it’s mostly led to broken experiences and delayed firmware upgrades.
Should Google take over? There are faint rumours that they might stop this nonsense with Gingerbread 3.0. They’ve also said the rapid rate of firmware updates will slow down as Android matures. A recent report showed that Android 2.x is running on 70% of all Android phones so at least this is slightly improving as time goes on.
As this is probably the most discussed Android topic in Canada, I’m SURE you have something to say about this. Got a solution? Just mad that you’re still stuck on 1.5 and 1.6? Go ahead and share your frustration. Just be sure to keep it clean And when you’re finished all that ranting, why not cast a vote in our poll below. Can’t wait to see the results for Canada!
