Google Unveils Google Play Textbooks Service

Google was busy at work today and unveiled the Nexus 7, the ChromeCast, a Google Play Games application and something that should be well received by all the Android-using students out there. In addition to the already available Google Play Books, Google unveiled Google Play Textbooks that should work as a new category inside the Play Books Store.

This new category of Google Play Books will feature ebook versions of textbooks from may popular textbook publishers around the world with whom Google as already partnered. The service should make buying textbooks easier and more affordable, and of course it will be more lightweight than the paper version.

The service will roll-out in August with different pricing structures available to students depending on the publisher and book. Google Play Textbooks will be cross-platform, so it will be available across Android, iOS and the web. The books will be available for purchase or for a full semester rental with up to 80% discount.

As a student myself I can only say I am truly happy that I might be able to ditch the 1000 pages textbook for a tablet not only 10mm thick. Leave your comments on this on the section below.
