Google Acknowledges Battery Drain On Nexus 5 – Fix In The Works
If you happen to be currently wielding the wonderful device known as the Nexus 5, you may have noticed that your battery is draining a little faster than normal since the last maintenance update. Google has acknowledged that they have located the bug that was causing the battery drain and have a fix ready to go on their next maintenance update.
The culprit in the battery drain was a process labelled “mm-qcamera-daemon” that was continually running in the background. The process will generally open up when an app is opened that needs to utilize the camera. Normally, the process should end when the app is closed but that has not been the case. The app would continue to run in the background and could cause your battery to drain at a rate as fast as 1% per 2 minutes while on standby.
Google has stated un-installing Skype seems to help avoid this a lot but they do note (as do the others replying to them) that other applications are causing this to happen as well. Hopefully the fix comes out sooner rather than later as I’m sure that many users use camera related apps on a daily basis.
