Why Samsung did it
The S4 had received a lot of criticism for how little internal storage was left for the user. Samsung needed a quick answer. Most owners would have preferred a larger-capacity model, but Apps-to-SD had worked on earlier Android phones and was a reasonable fix for anyone running out of space.
How to check for the update
- Open Settings and scroll to About device.
- Tap System update.
- Tap Check now.
- If the phone offers the update, download and install it.
The update was large. Depending on your data plan, it was wiser to wait until you were on Wi-Fi.
