CM9 newest nightlies includes cool new features
I know there’s got to be folk like me. We know ‘just enough’ about flashing ROMs to be excited about doing it, but probably not much more.
I’m not poking around, finding out exactly how to theme, or what is or isn’t deodexed ROM.
What I do do, however, is watch that CM9 nightlies page very closely and wait for a new version to be available. When a new one shows up, I check out the changelog and download away.
The latest (screenshot from the Maguro, read Galaxy Nexus) now allows for a customizable lock screen.
This is something that I’ve waited some time for. I tried to find a really cool feature like this for my phones previously and could never find one that I truly liked over the others. But this, not only is it built in to the system (thus saving another 3rd party app having to be installed) but it’s just what I wanted… something simple.
Simple.
You can make it complex if you know what you’re doing, but why over complicate?
On the shortcut screen, you drag to what position you want to adjust and you’re given the choice of a variety of shortcuts (depending on what you have installed) and either a direct Application, or an activity.
Activities are where it can get complicated, i.e. specific commands from each application are listed. For example, for the G+ shortcut I looked through the list that came up and find the “PostActivity”. That allows me to jump directly to the create a new post.
Again, just a way for us Android users to adjust our phone to US… making it completely our own.
Also included with this update is the start of the ‘theme chooser’.
Go download today the latest nightly!
WARNING… some nightlies, however checked, may still cause instability – as always, flashing things to your phone is your own risk and we take no responsibility to what you do to your phone.
