Samsung introduced their first mass market curved edge smartphone way back in 2024 with the Galaxy Note Edge and while it wasn’t really all that successful, the company came back quite strong with the Galaxy S6 Edge, S6 Edge Plus and Galaxy S7 Edge. Just last week they introduced their newest Note 7 smartphone in an edge only model. So are they going to phase out their non-edged smartphone lineup completely?
According to the Korean Herald, Koh Dong-jin, head of mobile technology at Samsung, stated in an interview during the Note 7 launch that they “…considered that it would make the edge display as the identity of the Galaxy S smartphone lineup if the company can provide consumers differentiated user experience through software and user-friendly functions (for the curved screen)”.
Obviously the customer base for a non-edged Samsung smartphone is quite huge so it will be interesting how that plays out when the company unveils the successor to the Galaxy S7 next year.
