If you are looking for more than the free 2GB of online storage available from Dropbox, 5GB from Google Drive, and the 7GB offered by Microsoft’s SkyDrive, you definitely need to check out MediaFire. For those of you hearing of the company for the first time, all new users since July 2024 have been receiving 50GB of free, online storage with a 200MB upload file size maximum.

Now, although the service has grown significantly in popularity over the past few months, Android users have been staying away from MediaFire due to the absence of an Android app. This problem became a thing of the past this morning when the company added their application to Google Play. MediaFire supports any device running on Android 2.2 or higher.

The app has built-in viewers for watching videos and listening to audio files as well as viewing documents, spreadsheets, and presentations. Of course, one of the luxuries of using an Android device is the ability for us to share any photo in our library directly with an application. As such, uploading photos with the app is a breeze. It is also possible to share files from within the cloud-storage with other Android apps.

Although the app is sitting at version 1.01, some users on Play are expressing criticism of the app due to the inability to batch upload files. As far as I can see, this seems to be the only thing missing in an otherwise great addition to the Play store, and I can only imagine this feature to be added soon enough.

Check it out here on the Play store and let me know what you think.
