Qualcomm Announces The Tok Smartwatch
We’ve known for a while that today Samsung would announce their upcoming smartwatch, the Galaxy Gear. Samsung didn’t disappoint, and they did unveil their first smartwatch. However, they weren’t the only ones. Choosing their timing correctly, Qualcomm unveiled their take on the smartwatch market, the Toq. The watch does what you’d expect from a normal smartwatch, but it packs some great hardware that should make it a great contender.
The Toq smartwatch is able to sync with your phone and display all of your important notifications, as you’d expect from every smartwatch out there. However, unlike few smartwatches out there, the Toq features a Qualcomm Mirasol display that never turns off.
The screen is a colour touch display with no back-light, harnessing ambient light and reflecting it to lighten up the screen. This technology not only means it’s battery friendly, but also that the screen will be usable even in direct sunlight.
So like any normal watch the Toq smartwatch is always powered on, ready when you need him, and will still hold a charge for several days. However, when that battery does run out Qualcomm made charging easier by providing a dock that charges the device wirelessly.
Unfortunately apart from the screen and wireless charging details are scarce. What we do know is that it will support any Android device running Android 4.0.3 and up, and connect through Bluetooth 4.0. We’ll let you know as soon as something new comes up. Let us know what you think of Qualcomm’s Toq in the comments below.
