Twitter Lite Allows Users to Tweet Even on a Bad Connection

Twitter wants to add more followers to its social network, so it’s going after those in developing countries. The news-focused social media network announced Twitter Lite yesterday, a version of its popular service which weighs less and works a lot faster, even on really slow networks.

Twitter Lite is a progressive web app (PWA), so it will work in your browser. The new service is available globally now, by accessing mobile.twitter.com on your smartphone or tablet. For users who use Google’s Chrome mobile app, Twitter will provide users with push notifications, in order to alert them of anything new happening online.

Twitter Lite is only 1MB and according to the company, it will consume 40% less data, but at the same time be 30% faster and will allow for quick navigation. Despite weighting next to nothing, Twitter Lite allows users to do most of the things that fully-fledged Twitter allowed them to like viewing their ow timeline, tweeting, sending and receiving personal messages, uploading images, viewing profiles and much more.

Twitter designed this watered down version with a few specific markets in mind, especially for developing nations located in Asia, Latin America or Africa. However Twitter Lite is available globally, so basically anyone can try it out.
