Quickoffice Pro/HD Reviewed after an update
So, a while back, someone once told me: ”iPhones are for hipsters, Androids are for geeks and Blackberries are for business; business isn’t going away, that’s why Blackberry will always be on top”.
I wasn’t sure to really respond with an ‘oh yeah’ or something entirely snarky towards how ancient their ‘smart’phone was. But, I sure wish I had a copy of Quickoffice on my phone at the time to show them.
I’ve used my different iterations of a ‘pda’ for office work for some time. I was mocked often for having that fold-out keyboard for my Palm pilots.
I was constantly ‘working’ with my Palm and a keyboard [didn’t even need it – I was awesome with Graffiti].
So if I had a copy of the Quickoffice HD with me on my tablet I would have had the definitive answer that these are indeed meant for office work. This app was everything you could have hoped for. Ok, so that’s a little superlative. But it’s good. Really.
I was very impressed with the layout, the graphic detail and the easy UI of the app. When they said HD, they meant it. It wasn’t some ‘tack-on’ adjective like those “HD Sunglasses” etc… it’s well done.
Connectivity to my cloud is no longer just a novel extra, it’s a requirement in apps now. And QO does not disappoint in that step. Viewing the files in the cloud was as seemless as if they were local files.
Now here’s the killer part: YOU CAN REORGANIZE THE FILES / FOLDERS FROM THE APP!
Did you catch that. To me that’s awesome. Often I’m making files quickly in Docs and when you create in docs you can’t set the label while you’re writing. So I’ll often forget to go into the listing and apply a label. Well, now I can do it on the fly.
Now I can do most of the work I’d do on my tablet / phone as I’d do on the computer. Moves me farther from my office place to my cloud office.
- [tablet] standard view
- [tablet] plenty of cloud options – tho’ I’d love to see MINUS or SKYDRIVE integration too
- [tablet] standard explorer view with clouds attached
- [tablet] plenty of ‘new’ options
- [tablet] plenty of SHARE TO options
- [tablet] you can’t probably tell, but I’m DRAGGING FILES TO REORGANIZE!
- [tablet] KILLER FEATURE – reorganizing cloud files/folders!!!
- [tablet] opening a remote file
- [tablet] word view – i chose that font
- [tablet] inserting images (i’ll admit I didn’t test it, or what it can do)
- [tablet] formatting options
- [tablet] file options
- [tablet] long press options (how you’ll find to select text)
- [tablet] full explorer view in a folder
- [tablet] function options
- [tablet] row/column options
- [tablet] options in spreadsheet
- [tablet] selecting text
- [phone] splash screen — would have liked it better if there were ‘actions’ available (if you want to make a new document you have to click QUICKWORD and then choose NEW)
- [phone] same cloud integration options
- [phone] word view – pictures show up fine (but you can’t ‘play’ with them)
- [phone] formatting options
- [phone] spreadsheet look
- [phone] formatting options
- [phone] all the function options
- [tablet] adding an image controls – would be nice if you could crop from there as well
The only thing I could wish for from the app would be better image placement options/controls, and more cloud storage integration.
Well done! Take those you BB ‘business folks’, this app’s got you navel watching now!
