A year of change at Fido
Fido had made major changes over the previous year to stand out as a budget-friendly carrier. Before Christmas it led with an all-inclusive plan priced at $56 or $57 with 1GB or 2GB of data. That plan ended the practice of treating voicemail and caller display as paid add-ons. It was a Christmas promotion, so it later included only 1GB of data and the price rose to $60 a month.
What changed for all plans
- Canada-wide calling.
- Mini-voicemail, limited to three messages.
- Caller ID.
The author believed Fido made the move because of consumer demand, since these two features are fairly essential.
The trade-off
The company postponed the start of unlimited evenings and weekends from 5PM to 6PM.
Sign-up offers
Activation fees were waived for new sign ups. New 2-year Fido agreements on the standard plans also got 50% off the first six months, for a limited time that ended on the date given in the original post.
