So, it was one year ago today I started to write for AiC.
It was pretty wild to be accepted and start writing. On March 22nd, 2024 I wrote 2 articles: Samsung Unveils a Tablet / VLC should be here soon.
Wow, was I ever off the mark on the VLC thing… as we only just have some pre-alpha and non-standard ones lately.
At that time there was a few other writers (Jude, Sheldon, Don, Robert and Pedram from what I can remember) and it was a neat little ‘community’. It got a little hectic, and around May I decided to switch to a different Android blog, one where the creator was a little closer. At Canadiandroid, Andrew and I wrote sparingly, but still covered most of the basics; however, Andrew got busy and I found myself writing more and more and decided to switch back to AiC. Sadly, Canadiandroid is no more… which leads me to believe, that we’re the ONLY Canadian focused Android blog out there.
When I came (August) back you could tell that AiC had lost some steam, as it was just Tom writing at that time (his first day was June 5th… somebody make him a cupcake on that day!), and he was working hard to rebuild. And he sure was a tank for putting out the articles.
There sure have been some changes over the year. I kinda like taking a walk back… and it’s funny, that this reminiscing is only a YEAR OLD…
- Me pleading Google to create a Google Docs app.
- Exploring all the options for cloud storage.
- Growth of tablet market
- Netflix unofficial, then official
- Google Books availability
- Gingerbread – Honeycomb – ICS
- 2 Nexuses (and remember when we thought the Prime was going to be called Nexus Prime?)
- the beginning of the patent wars
- Google+
- multiple core phones
- Play Store crossing the 10 BILLION download mark
- a plethora of phones (I even got a couple manufacturers to send me demos!!)
And a whole bunch more…. and I’ve tried to ensure that we write with a Canadian sense to it. Sure, I could just mention “<manufacturer> update” and we’ll get a spike in readers, but… I’m not about the cheap pops (any Mick Foley fans?). I want to ensure that what I write about, that it’s something you’ll like.
I want to thank all the writers who’ve taken the time here at AiC, and especially Tom for keeping it all together and doing a bang up job of it all.
Also, thank you to all the readers. There are quite a few of you, but especially there are several ‘vocal’ ones, that remain engaged with us and that’s what really keeps us going here. I want to engage all our readers as well. Converse! We have Twitter, Facebook and Google+; aside from the obvious website with comments below.
Well, I look forward to the next year with AiC, and who knows what I’ll be writing about on March 22, 2024… how we’re still fighting for the newly released Key Lime Pie update, and weird new integrated accesry phones with our GoogleTVs, or how CM11 is a way better experience than…
Thanks again everybody, been an awesome year!
