Samsung May Adopt 4:3 Screens For Their Upcoming Tablets
One of the most distinctive differences between Android tablets and the iPad has traditionally been the aspect ratio of the screen. Android tablets often use 16:9 or 16:10 displays where Apple has always employed a 4:3 aspect ratio for their tablet screens. A couple of Android tablets have recently adopted the 4:3 aspect ratio (ie. Nexus 9 and Xiaomi MiPad) and according to a new report, the biggest Android manufacturer of all may be making the switch.
According to the oft reliable Samsung site SamMobile, Samsung may utilize the 4:3 aspect ratio on a couple of their upcoming tablets. According to the site, Samsung may have both 8″ and 9.7″ tablets in the works which would put these tablets in direct competition with the iPad Mini and iPad. However, the rumoured specs for these tablets suggest that these are going to be lower range products.
One possibility is that Samsung is going to use these lower end tablets as a test to see how customers respond to the new form factor. I actually picked up a MiPad recently and I don’t mind the form factor too much for web browsing, reading, and even some gaming. However, I still prefer the wider screens for video as you simply get to use more of the display.
What do you guys prefer? 4:3 or 16:9/16:10?
