How many of you guys remember the Notion Ink Adam?  Well way way back in the day before Google had put together a good tablet UI, the Notion Ink team put together a little device known as the Adam that ran a highly customized version of Android specifically for the tablet.  The idea was good and the hardware was actually quite spectacular at the time, but their execution didn’t go so well.  Poor shipping and faulty products made this fade away rather quickly.

Despite their rough go, the Notion Ink team is back to and have unveiled their new Notion Ink Adam II.  Here’s the spec breakdown:

CPU 1.5Ghz dual-core Cortex A9

Secondary Display STN, resolution 100×5

While I was really happy to see the that the team wasn’t completely dead in the water, I was pretty underwhelmed reading the spec sheet.  One unique aspect of this particular tablet, however, is that there is a secondary display built into the “spine” of the device that will display incoming notifications.  Is that enough to save the device?  Probably not, but it’s pretty cool nonetheless.

One thing that the original Adam had that I wish this one had is a Pixel Qi display.  This type of display enables you to have a E-Ink like reading experience.  I have a very vast digital book database and have been searching for some time for a larger more capable device to be able to do a lot of reading on.  My rooted and flashed Sony E-Reader isn’t too bad but it’s extremely under-powered and is on the small size when I’m trying to have multiple books up at the same time.

Perhaps if they release a Pixel Qi version of the Adam II they might at least catch my interest.
