Kobo has announced a new eReader based on Android 2.3. At the price of $199 it may turn the low cost tablet market on it’s head in Canada.
Features Include:
- open access to Android 2.3 and full-featured email (POP3, IMAP4)
- integrated music and video player
- 2.2 million eBooks – 1 million free eBooks
- 7″ display
- 7 hours battery run time
- 8GB memory – ability to upgrade the memory to 32GB with a SD card
- apps like Facebook® and RDIO® come ready to go and the store offers over 15,000 music, video and game apps
There is not much information with respect to the application market but I think we can assume that it is not the Android Market. Are they building a Canadian response to the Amazon AppStore?
The music and video content available for purchase on the Vox is an interesting development as Chapters/Indigo does not currently provide music download services on their web site. Will they add the multimedia feature to the Android version of their Kobo software already available or link it to the Vox hardware?
Are you going to spring for one of these gadgets? I’m thinking about adding one to my collection.
