Samsung Has Sold 800 000 Galaxy Gears In Two Months! (Update)

Galaxy Gear

Many (myself included) have questioned the usefulness of Samsung’s new smartwatch, the Galaxy Gear, due to limited functionality.  At the moment, it is only compatible with the Galaxy Note 3 and available compatible apps is fairly sparse.  Despite the limitations and generally lack luster reviews online, the device is still selling in huge numbers.  According to Samsung, sales for the Samsung Galaxy Gear have hit 800 000 in just 2 months!

These numbers are better than many have expected and have exceeded Samsung’s own expectations.  As a result of the positive sales, Samsung is planning to ramp up marketing efforts for their wearable device as the holiday season (and buying season) approaches.

Have any of you picked up the Gear?  If so, how are you liking it?

UPDATE:

Just a quick update.  The 800 000 is a shipped number and not a sold number.  However, from my understanding of how manufacturers normally report numbers, they’re more often than not showcasing the “shipped” number rather than a sold number.  For example, when a company says that they’ve sold 1 million phones, those millions aren’t necessarily in the hands of users but have made their way to dealers and re-sellers.  I could be wrong about this but based on what I’ve read that’s how these numbers are usually communicated.  Nevertheless, one reader pointed out the error so I figured I’d update the post.
