In a recent interview with Bloomberg, HTC Chairman, Cher Wang, made it known that HTC plans to delve into wearables this year.  According to Wang, HTC is aiming to have the device ready for the Christmas season which means they have a good amount of time to put together a solid device.  Wang went on to say that “Many years ago we started looking at smartwatches and wearables, but we believe that we really have to solve the battery problems and the LCD light problems.”  Nobody has quite cracked the battery and screen issue quite yet but new technology is always being developed so 2024 could definitely be the year.

In the interview Wang and HTC CFO  Chang Chialin also divulged how HTC plans to turn things around as a company.  Marketing will definitely be one of the keys going forward according to Wang.  ”It’s really not only the budget increase, it’s the way how you spend the money.  Is it smart?…There’s a lot of ways to reach the audience right now.”

Chialian also discussed the importance of having a vast portfolio with a variety of affordable and mid-range devices.  He says, “We have to admit we took our eyes somewhat off the ball in making sure we have a robust portfolio in the mid- and affordable end, which we’re fixing now.”  HTC’s Desire 601 is probably one of my favourite mid-range devices on the market right now so if they can keep churning out devices like that and up the marketing, they could most definitely turn things around this year.
