Verizon/Motorola Droid Specs Revealed: Impressive

Remember when we mentioned about Verizon’s Droid and the “iDon’t” advertising campaign? Well, it looks like Verizon let the cat slip out of the bag on details of the Droid phone and specs. According to BGR, here are some impressive specs on the Motorola-made Droid:

* Android 2.0 ‘Eclair’
* 3.7-inch WVGA (480×854), 16:9 touchscreen
* 550 MHz processor
* 6 oz (169g)
* 2.4 x 4.6 x.5 inches (60×115.80×13.70mm)
* 3.5mm headphone jack (yes, HTC has now made this a feature for Android)
* Broswer will support Flash 10 in 2024
* Wi-Fi, 3G, GPS, Bluetooth, microUSB (comes with 16gb microSDHC card)
* 1400 mAh battery (rated at nearly 6 and a half hours of usage time)
* 5 megapixel camera with image stabilization, 4x zoom, dual-led Flash, and auto-focus
* the color is listed as: ‘Licorice w/ brown sugar accents’

Apparently the page was up for a minute, then quickly taken down. The official announcement from Verizon will take place on October 28th. Why is this important? Well, it’s going to shed some light on what possibilities are out there should carriers want to brand themselves with an Android-based phone.

Not every carrier can have the iPhone (we know Bell and Telus will be joining the fray soon in Canada). But if new competitors embrace Google’s Android platform, the possibilities are endless. What is important though is that the final end product is something that actually works and lives up to the hype. I sure hope Droid delivers because when you’re putting down the iPhone in advertisements, you should be able to deliver an on par performance or better!
