Sony Xperia Ion Coming Soon To Rogers? (Update)

About a week ago Sony announced that the Xperia Ion would be coming to Canada this summer.  They then announced that this device would be coming to the Rogers network.  Then a tipster over at MobileSyrup revealed that the device will not be exclusive to Rogers but Rogers will have an exclusive time frame on the unit.

In the midst of all these tips, no real release date had been given beyond “sometime” in July (and we all know what that can mean…).  However, it seems that the launch may be coming soon as accessories have began to make their way to some Rogers retailers.

Here’s a breakdown of the device: 4.6″ HD reality display with a resolution of 1280×720, a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, a 12MP camera, a 720p front-facing camera, LTE, HDMI and  DLNA connectivity, a 1900 mAh battery, 16GB internal memory (expands up to 32GB).

Looks like a pretty capable device.  However, it is said that it will ship with Android 2.3 and will upgrade to 4.0 shortly thereafter.

I have always had a love hate relationship with Sony’s devices.  On the one hand, I’ve always loved their designs.  I had the X10 and thought it was one of the prettiest phones at it’s time and most everything I’ve seen since from Sony has always looked slick.  However, I’ve always been put off by their hardware and especially their software.  Hardware was usually old, and software usually behind/slow to upgrade.  The hardware looks on par with other high end devices, but again, if it really ships with 2.3, the software is failing them again.

What do you think?  Anybody excited for this device?

Update: The guys over at MobileSyrup were tipped off to the pricing for this device.  3-Year pricing comes in at $49.99 while the off-contract price is $549.99.
