Well it’s finally here and it’s the giant we all expected it to be. Earlie today Sony officially unveiled their first phablet, the Sony Xperia Z Ultra. To date, it is the largest 1080p display on a phone, coming in at a massive 6.4 inches. Despite it’s mammoth screen, it’s a very thin and phone, coming in at just 6.5mm thin 212g! Here are the rest of the specs:
- 6.4″ Triluminous Display
- 2.2GHz Snapdragon 800 Processor
- 2GB RAM
- 16GB Internal Storage
- microSD Card Slot
- 8MP Camera
- 2MP Front Facing Camera
- 3000 mAh Battery
- IP55/IP58 Certification (Waterproof/Dust-proof)
For the most part, solid specs for the phone; although, the battery seems a little small for a device with such a massive display. Design wise, this thing follows very closely with the Xperia Z (which, in my opinion, is still one of the best looking devices on the market) with it’s glass front and back and metal frame. It also shares that same water resistance and dust proofing which is also great to see
Despite the massive size and beautiful design, Sony also has another trick for their new phablet. As previously rumoured, you will be able to use the phone with your every day graphite pencil or metal pen (provided it has a tip diameter over 1mm). I’m still not sure whether or not I’d want to take a pen or pencil to my glass display but it’s a cool option nonetheless.
At the moment, we’re unsure if this device will make its way to Canada but I for one certainty hope so. I’m not positive I’ll be able to handle the size of the device but I’d love to at least give it a try. Plus, competition is always a good thing and up till now, Samsung hasn’t really had any phablet competition. Any of you guys considering this as your next phone?
