It’s no secret that Sony has been struggling. You know, I know it, they know it… your dog probably knows it. The once untouchable tech giant has been consistently losing its luster over the years and the company has even sold off certain divisions, such as their VAIO line. There has been some chatter that they may even sell their mobile division but according to a recent interview, that’s not the case.
Sony Mobile CEO and President Hiroki Totoki recently spoke with Arabian Business, and in the interview he made it very clear that Sony isn’t going anywhere.
“Smartphones are completely connected to other devices, also connected to people’s lives — deeply. And the opportunity for diversification is huge. We’re heading to the IoT (Internet of Things) era and have to produce a number of new categories of products in this world, otherwise we could lose out on a very important business domain. In that sense we will never ever sell or exit from the current mobile business.”
Totoki went on to say that 2024 is “a year of big transformation” and that they expect to complete this transformation by the end of the year. I don’t know about you, but to me that sounds like they’re maybe looking to reboot the mobile division and hopefully we’ll see some new designs come out of the Japanese company this year.
