Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’re probably aware that Samsung is expected to launch the new Galaxy S8 flagship on March 29. So far, the rumour mill has been saying the handset will feature an iris scanner, but as it turns out in the end Samsung has decided against using this technology.
According to Tech Investor, limitations with iris scanning technology such as speed and accuracy has prompted the Korean tech giant to seek another alternative. More precisely, the Galaxy S8 will be coming out with facial recognition instead. A Samsung official stated for the publication that with a face scanner, a phone can be unlocked in under 0.01 seconds.
The report also reveals that Samsung is currently testing these prototypes. With less than 3 weeks to go until the Galaxy S8 going official, more and more information about the upcoming flagship is leaking out from all parts.
The phone is expected to come in 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch variants featuring minimal bezels and without a physical home button, like it was customary for Samsung Galaxy flagships so far. The handset will take advantage of the Snapdragon 835 and offer the services of Samsung’s virtual assistant Bixby. The phone should make it out into retail on April 28.
