Well this is a really interesting little story/rumour. A report has surfaced recently stating that Samsung will be abandoning both their home made Exynos chip and AMOLED screens on the upcoming Galaxy S IV. Apparently the Exynos chips were heating up too much under regular stress so Samsung is opting to go with their competitor’s chip instead. In terms of the screen, it’s being suggested that Samsung will be opting for the SoLux display over the AMOLED. I believe this is the same display that HTC has selected to use on their recently announced HTC One.
Now I don’t know about you, but the Exynos chips and the AMOLED screens have always been two major factors for me choosing Samsung over the competition. In general, Exynos chips have always outperformed the competition and I personally love the way that AMOLED screens really pop. In fact, when it came to picking up a Galaxy S II back in the day I had to go with the i9100 for the Exynos chip. And when I was searching for the original Galaxy Note, I refused to purchase the American/Canadian version despite the addition of LTE. In a lot of ways, the AMOLED screen and Exynos chips are almost synonymous with the top tier Galaxy devices so the absence of them, at least in my mind, is ludicrous.
Some other pieces of information that came forward in this “report” include the confirmation of the squared off design and aluminium sides with plastic back. These design cues can be seen in the super blurry picture below which may possibly be the Galaxy S IV.
What are your guys’ thoughts about this news? If it turns out to be true are you as disappointed as me about the news that Samsung is abandoning the Exynos chip and AMOLED screen?
