Huawei isn’t a huge presence in the mobile market here in Canada. Prior to the release of the Huawei made Nexus 6P, most of the Chinese companies devices available in Canada were low end Android devices that were, well, less than great. And in all seriousness, it’s hard to say that the 6P is really Huawei’s device as it’s really released by Google. The company had stated that they wanted to begin bringing more of their higher end devices to North America and it looks like the first to hit Canada will be the Huawei GR5.
Both Rogers and its sub carrier Fido will be carrying the GR5 which is essentially a rebranded Honor 5X. This device features an all aluminum body which houses a 5.5″ 1080p display. Internally, the device packs a Snapdragon 616 processor, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of expandable storage. Photo taking is handled by 13MP shooter on the back and 5MP shooter on the front and a 3000 mAh battery keeps things chugging along. The phone also packs a fingerprint reader.
No word on a release date or pricing yet but as soon as we get some information we’ll let you know. Hopefully this release will signal an influx of higher end devices from Huawei and other Chinese companies.
