The long teased Oppo N1 was finally officially unveiled at Oppo’s event in Beijing. The new 5.9-inch smartphone sure isn’t your run-of-the-mill smartphone and offers some unique features that we had never seen in any modern smartphone (Nokia did do it a long time ago).
The Oppo N1 features a 5.9-inch 1080×1920 full HD IPS display with 377ppi and is powered by a Snapdragon 600 CPU backed up by 2GB of RAM and a whopping 3,610mAh battery. The device also features all the expected connectivity options, but what wasn’t expected was the camera hardware found on this smartphone.
Differently from what you find in all modern smartphones, you won’t get two cameras, one back and one front-facing. You might be thinking, what about video calls and self-shots? Oppo has got you covered as the camera module rotates 206º to do both back and front-facing shots with the powerful 13MP, f/2.0 aperture, 6 lens, camera sensor powered by a dedicated Fujitsu imaging chip. The camera also features two LED flashes to make sure both self-shots and normal photos come out perfect.
Also unique is the back touch panel which enables you to do usual gestures without having to reach for that enormous screen, making book reading and website viewing a much more enjoyable experience.
On the software side you’ll be able to buy either a Color UI (Oppo’s firmware) Android 4.2 version or a CyanogenMod packing version, though the last one will be a limited edition. However, buyers of the normal version can flash CyanogenMod officially through the company’s website.
To sum it up, we have a great and powerful device, with an amazing camera that will take amazing pictures in every direction and angle you like. The only thing left for this unique phablet to be a success is for it to be available worldwide. Rumours are that we can expect it coming to Canada, unlocked, through Oppo’s website, and we sure look forward to it. Let us know in the comments below what you think of Oppo’s smartphone.
