It doesn’t seem like Sony is trying to keep their upcoming device a secret at all as more details and screenshots of the upcoming Honami have surfaced. Let’s start with what details were pulled from the system dump. To begin with, the system dump was apparently leaked from a Canadian carrier which is great news for us (if true) as at least one carrier will be picking up this phone! The dump also confirmed the Snapdragon 800 processor and incredible 20MP shooter. Not only will this 20MP camera shoot huge resolution pictures but it may also support 4K video capture which, to my knowledge, is a first for a phone.
Continuing on with camera details, the camera will feature a Timeshift mode (similar to a burst show) that will allow you to move back and forth to find the best shot. It also seems that they will be building some sort of augmented reality functionality into the camera. I’m not too sure how that will work but it could be cool if done well. One of the more interesting camera developments is that Sony is releasing a camera API which will enable the ability to add additional camera functions later on.
The rest of the pictures you see below are screenshots of the refreshed Sony UI. Judging from the pictures, we should expect a new launcher, Walkman app, and clock, conversation, phone book, settings, and calendar apps. All of them look pretty clean and simple. ”Small Apps” is still present as well and hopefully this will gain more and more functionality as Sony pushes more devices out the door.
As I’ve said in previous posts, I’m really impressed with what Sony is doing these days and I’m really looking forward to giving this guy a try. They do need to market this well to help garner attention and they really need to ensure this is launched across multiple carriers. They also need to make sure they keep the price competitive as Sony traditionally over prices their stuff due to their prestigious name. Don’t get me wrong, Sony’s stuff is generally great, but in the smartphone world, not too many people have been looking at them for a while.
