Well the next iteration of Sony’s flagship is here as Sony announced the new Sony Xperia Z4 earlier today in Japan. On the surface, it looks like much of the same (as expected) but Sony has beefed things up under the hood once again (also expected). Here are the specs:
- 5.2″ 1080p Display
- Snapdragon 810 Processor
- 3GB RAM
- 32GB Internal Storage
- microSD Card Slot
- 20.7MP Camera
- 5.1MP Front Facing Camera
- 2930 mAh Battery
- IP5X and IP8X Certified
- Android 5.0
Design wise, Sony slimmed down their latest flagship as the Xperia Z4 is just 6.9mm thin (0.4mm thinner than the Z3) and 144 g (8g less than the Z3). It is said to sport a much stronger metal frame so it shouldn’t bend despite the thinner body. The battery size obviously took a hit as Sony attempted to make the devise more svelte but Sony has always provided pretty killer battery life on their devices so this shouldn’t be a major issue. As always, Sony will be offering several colour options as the Z4 will come in White, Black, Copper and Aqua.
Now here’s the most interesting part about the announcement. It seems that this particular Z4 is only going to be sold in Japan. Word is that Sony will announced another flagship in about a month and this one will launch globally. Whether this is the same device, a renamed/rebranded Z4, or perhaps an altogether different device remains to be seen but it’s intriguing story nonetheless.
