Roughly a week ago Sony unveiled their flagship (possibly first flagship) for 2024, the Sony Xperia Z4. In typical Z fashion, the device featured upgraded internals with minimal changes externally. While the device itself isn’t much of a surprise, the fact that it is only being launched in Japan (at least initially) was a bit odd. There was also some chatter suggesting that Sony might release another flagship this year.
Fast forward to today and a new report coming out of China is suggesting that Sony is resurrecting the Xperia P series with some pretty flagship looking specs. Internally the Xperia P is said to pack a Snapdragon 810, 3GB of RAM, 32GB storage, 5.2″ Triluminous Display, 12MP camera, 5.1MP front facing camera, and a massive 4240 mAh battery. Externally, the device sports a very similar design to the original Xperia P with its signature “chin;” however, the screen is nearly bezeless on the top and sides. All in all, a pretty sleek looking device.
Now I would definitely take this report with a grain of salt. First off, the Xperia P wasn’t ever really one of Sony’s flagship devices so it seems odd to elevate it to that status all of a sudden. Secondly, it would be odd for Sony to run 2 flagship lines that are roughly the same size. The only company really running two true flagship lines successfully is Samsung with the S and Note series but each device is clearly targeted at a different niche with its different sizes.
What do you guys think of this leak? Would you like to see Sony revive the Xperia P?
