One of the biggest causes of HTC’s recent failings has been their marketing, or perhaps, lack thereof. HTC’s head bosses themselves have noted that this was a major reason the company dropped down the list when it comes to the most popular smartphones. I’d say that this is definitely one of the major problems but to me the lack of brand continuity is also very problematic, but I digress…
HTC looks like they’re at least looking to right the marketing woes as they have been pushing the HTC One hard. There were several stories going around last week that HTC actually flooded the streets of NY on Galaxy S IV day to show off their own flagship device. Now we have chance to check out HTC ‘s latest commercial promoting one of their new features Blink Feed.
In case you’re unfamiliar with Blink Feed, it’s HTC’s new home screen style that will debut on the HTC One. It pulls together all sorts of social media and news content and displays them on your home screen in a very FlipBoard-esque way. It’s definitely a very different way of doing Android but I could see this style really appealing to all those social media buffs out there.
The commercial itself is interesting but kind of confusing in my opinion. If you don’t know what Blink Feed is, you’re not really going to understand the commercial and you’ll probably walk away from it wondering what you just watched. While I give HTC props for trying to get the One out there, I don’t think this commercial is going to invoke the “I’ve gotta have it” feeling.
