HTC One M9 Now Official, Launches In Canada Early Spring

HTC has officially unveiled their newest flagship smartphone, during their event at MWC, and it’s called the HTC One M9.

The phone shares a great amount of resemblance to the previous generation One (M8) in both build quality and appearance, but that’s no surprise since it was leaked so many times. Leaks aside, I have to admit the phone is very polished even if the end result wasn’t what @evleaks touted a while back.

From the outside. the One M9 has the power button moved to the side, and has a more squarer camera module. However, it’s the internals that really make this phone blow away the One (M8). It’s coming with the 64-bit Snapdragon 810 SoC, 3GB LPDDR4 RAM, 32GB of internal storage (with only 21GB available out of the box), microSD expansion and a 2880 mAh battery.

Now for the cameras. The rear facing camera is indeed a 20MP sensor covered by a sapphire lens to ensure its durability, but the front facing camera has been replaced by a 4 UltraPixel sensor, which used to be on the back of the One (M8). It’s too bad OIS has yet again been left out, so hopefully HTC has provided some sort of software solution.

The display is still sporting a 1080p panel, and still comes with that horrible black bar on the lower part of the bezel. As with the One (M8), the bar was still required to house the necessary display components. As for the speakers, the phone is still coming with its signature BoomSound stereo speakers, but this time, HTC has included Dolby Audio to enhance the audio quality.

Sense 7 is also present and it’s running on top of Android 5.0 Lollipop. More on that later this week.

And for the release date for us Canadians, MobileSyrup is reporting that HTC will release the phone in “early Spring” and it will come on the following carriers: Rogers, Bell, TELUS, Koodo, Videotron and Sasktel. The price is still an unknown but expect it to be north of $649.
