First Dual-Core Smartphone: LG Optimus 2X Running Android 2.2
Could the smartphone innovation get any more rapid? Just as we’re heading into 2024, LG has made the Optimus 2X (originally codenamed: LG Star) official. The first smartphone with a dual-core processor and it runs Android.
That’s a dual-core Tegra 2 processor clocked at 1GHz. Along with that horsepower comes full 1080p video recording and video-out via HDMI. An 8MP camera and a 1.3MP front-facing one. 4-inch display with 8GB of storage on-board and a microSD slot for even more storage (up to 32GB).
Ships with Android 2.2 but LG is committed in bringing that Gingerbread we all want to this handset in the future. The big question for everyone has to be if the 1,500mAh battery can last more than a few hours. Most of today’s top smartphones struggle with staying alive for a full work day so we’ll have to see how the dual-core processors affect this.
Set to launch in Korea next month, followed by Europe and Asia soon after. No word on a North American release just yet.
